Aloha! My name is Spencer Lee and I am a landscape, nature, and adventure photographer. I love exploring the outdoors with my camera and my creative friends. I have a passion for conservation and use my social media platforms to inspire others to adventure responsibly and take action to ensure the protection of the natural world.
I was first exposed (haha no pun intended) to photography in high school, taking photos of athletic events because I was never good enough to actually play. One evening there was an incredible sunset during a football game, and I believe I spent more effort shooting the sunset rather than focusing on the game. From that point on, I decided to focus primarily on landscape photography in order to reconnect with my outdoor focused upbringing.
I started to take landscape photography seriously in 2016 and quickly grew a presence on Instagram (@spencerlee808). I was an incredible experience to share my work online for people to enjoy and connect with some inspiring creative friends. However, in 2020 I realized that my “pretty pictures” had come at a cost, and that expense was the environment.
From broken palm trees from too many people standing on it, to beaches crowded with litter, and trampled brush on hiking trails. My impact on social media as well as the overall growth in popularity of outdoor activities had ruined some of my favorite spots to shoot, as well as harmed innocent plants and wildlife in the process. I decided to shift my focus in photography to a more noble goal which is to inspire people to adventure into the outdoors while keeping the wellbeing of nature at their highest priority. For we are not apart from nature, we are apart of nature.
